The iSchool's Prof Peter Bath will give a lecture at the 24 Hour Inspire event, which is taking place from 28th February to 1st March, in the Hicks Building here at the University of Sheffield. The event is held in memory of Physics & Astronomy lecturer Dr Tim Richardson, and is in support of the charity he created, Inspiration for Life . Entry to each lecture is £1, or £5 for the full programme, and proceeds go to the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and local hospices. Prof Bath's lecture is entitled "Health Informatics", and takes place at 8am on Friday 1st March. See the 24 Hour Inspire programme for more information.

Dr Alex Peng Information School Lecturer Dr Alex Peng has won the University's  SURE 2012 Academic Supervisor of the Year . He received his award at this year's SURE Showcase yesterday. Alex's student Marcus Walton was also one of only three students nominated for the SURE 2012 Student Researcher of the Year.

Rachel Davies We would like to offer our warmest congratulations to our latest cohort of postgraduate students on their recent graduation. Almost 250 postgraduates successfully graduated from the School's single- and dual-honours degree programmes, and now go on to join the thousands of Information School alumni working throughout industry, government, education and other organisations across the world. Congratulations to Roisin Cassidy , studying on our MA Librarianship programme, who has won one of two sponsored student places at the LILAC (information Literacy) conference in March. With the growing popularity of digital maps, School Senior Lecturer Dr Paul Clough has conducted research into the issue of digital maps, paper maps and users' preferences, with some surprising results. Paul discusses his research over at Readwrite: Why Digital Maps Aren't Ready To Replace Paper

What is Research Data Management and why has it become a key agenda in HEIs? How do researchers themselves view data - what is research data? Which arguments for RDM do researchers find most convincing? What is the role of the library and other professional services in supporting RDM? How to support Research Data Management (RDM) has become a big issue in academic libraries. Many professionals will want to get up to speed on the topic. JISC has funded the Sheffield iSchool with the university libraries of Leeds, Sheffield and York to create a set of learning materials on RDM. Version 1 is now available. http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/is/ research/projects/rdmrose This Open Educational Resource of learning materials can be used for self-supported CPD or reused under an attribution/sharealike licence for staff training within libraries or by other LIS educators.
